Guide for roofing contractors
Roof claim prediction software: what to look for.
A number is easy to sell. Here is how to tell if a claim score is worth your money.
Short answer
A good claim score does four things. It tells you how ready the file is. It tells you why. It tells you what to fix. And you get people who help when the carrier says no. Ask what each answer costs before you start.
1. Does it tell you why?
A score with no reasons leaves you guessing. You should see where the points came from: storm proof, damage evidence, photos, repairability, the adjuster and the paper trail.
2. Does it tell you what to fix?
The point of a score is to raise it. Look for a list of the missing items, in order, with what each one is worth.
3. What does each answer cost?
Some tools charge for every answer. That adds up fast when you score every claim you work. Look for a free first score and a flat price after that.
4. Is there a person when the claim gets hard?
Software cannot look at a weak file with you. Ask who reviews the file, who you can ask, and whether anyone will look at a weak claim with you.
5. Does it make your reps better?
A score helps one claim. Training helps every claim after it. Look for both.
6. Who works the claim, and can you watch?
If you hand a claim over, know who is working it. You should see every call, every email and every follow up.
7. Does it promise approval?
Walk away from anything that does. A score is an early read on the file. The carrier decides the claim.
